ONE AT A TIME - Handcrafted Custom Furniture

People who have bought custom furniture do so for a variety of reasons that typically involve a specific need, dimension or style that they are unable to find among the factory furniture available in retail stores. Here are just a few reasons people have come to One at a Time...

The Perfect Fit

The beauty of custom furniture is that there are no boundaries when it comes to special sizes and dimensions. A table that measures just 23" high and fits perfectly under the window in your den? A dresser that has ten drawers but will fit between the door and closet in your bedroom? Custom furniture always fits to perfection, no matter what space is available.

No dimension limitations...

Choice of Woods

Cherry & Walnut Whether you're trying to match or compliment another piece in your home, or you simply like a certain type of wood, you can select the wood species that most suits your tastes from among a wide range of domestic and imported hardwoods. And you're not limited to one type of wood, many of our pieces are constructed using two or more species for a dramatic and beautiful effect.

Maple & Walnut

Custom Drawer Pulls

In addition to the wide variety of quality brass, copper and pewter hardware available in today's market, we offer custom handcrafted drawer pulls made of solid hardwoods. Each hardwood pull is hand made, meaning the shape and size possibilities are endless!

The Perfect Finish

A good finish will enhance the appearance of a piece of furniture while at the same time protecting it from ultra violet rays, dirty fingers, food stains, and the trauma that central heating and air conditioning can cause to solid wood furniture. If you are having a coffee table made for your living room, you might want to consider several coats of hand-rubbed linseed oil to bring clarity and depth to the wood's figure, and then a top coat of a quality urethane finish to protect against food and drink spills. On the other hand, a cherry bookshelf that will not be a resting place for cups and dishes might call for an oil finish hand-rubbed to a satin sheen to allow the wood's natural patina to fully develop. Whatever your choice, our finishes are carefully applied, always by hand, and completed with two coats of good paste wax. And you will receive instructions on how you can maintain the finish, and even enhance it, over years to come.

Good Old-Fashioned Joinery

Dovetail While we take full advantage of modern woodworking technology, each piece is joined and fitted by hand with a combination of finely tuned chisels and hand planes. This isn't simply a romantic notion, it is the only way of ensuring that each hand crafted piece of furniture that leaves One At A Time will maintain its structural integrity, through the seasons, for many generations. In other words, our chairs will not sway or squeak when you sit on them, our drawers will glide effortlessly on their runners, and our doors will swing freely on their hinges.

A Unique Investment

The value of well made solid wood furniture only increases over time. The constantly rising prices of premium furniture hardwoods like cherry and walnut have led many furniture factories to the use of wood by-products, modern products that have not proven their worth over the test of time. Sold wood furniture has not only shown it can survive generations of use, its value, like its patina, will improve over time.
